The economic activity of the aquaculture industry provides most coastal communities in Northern Norway, as well as other parts of the country, with a number of positive livelihood impacts and perhaps some negative. Some of these are provision of rural livelihoods, better income and new or alternative employment. Many of these impacts are well known and documented on an national and regional bases. But what are the local impacts, and can they be documented?

Can we measure positive as well as negative impacts of the industry on for example the opportunity for diversion and leisure, safety and wellbeing of the local community?
