In many ways, Iceland is ideal for the cultivation of microalgae. A clean environment, green energy, abundance of natural water, educated population and general widespread entrepreneurial spirit give the country a competitive edge. There are great future possibilities in the industry, both in the production of food supplements, where the markets are rapidly expanding, in the production of feed for fish and shrimp farming, and in the production of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Microalgae farming has all the potential to become a large-scale industry in Iceland in the coming years and decades.
