Svandís Svavarsdóttir matvælaráðherra verður gestur okkar í upphafsmálstofu. Rætt verður um framtíð laxeldis á Íslandi og heimsmarkað fyrir laxaafurðir í nútíð og framtíð. Einnig verður rætt um skattaumhverfi laxeldis á Íslandi, Færeyjum og Noregi. Spurt er hvort laxeldi geti bjargað heiminum og síðan verður yfirferð um færeyskt lagareldi.
Við verðum með málstofu um lagareldi Færeyinga. Fjallað verður um þörungarækt og þau tækifæri sem þar gefast. Ein af helstu áskorunum í fiskeldi í heiminum er fóðurgerð, með takmarkað framboð próteina, og þar liggur mestur kostnaður fiskeldis og stærsta kolefnisspor framleiðslunnar.
Sérstök málstofa verður um landeldi og þær gríðarlegu fjárfestingar sem þar eru fram undan. Málstofa verður um möguleika mismunandi eldisaðferða fiskeldis á Íslandi; landeldi, sjóeldi, úthafseldi. Einnig um þörungaræktog hvaða tækifæri og áskoranir eru í skelrækt?
Í lokamálstofu verður fjallað um tvær nýlegar skýrslur um lagareldi á Íslandi, Boston Consulting Group skýrslan og skýrsla Ríkisendurskoðanda um laxeldi og stjórnsýslu. Hvaða tækifæri felast í lagareldi fyrir framtíð íslensks hagkerfis? Hver er stefnumótun stjórnvalda í fiskeldismálum og hvernig sér atvinnugreinin þá stefnu fyrir sér. Hvernig getum við hámarkað verðmætasköpun lagareldis á Íslandi á sjálfbæran hátt?
Lagareldi er ört vaxandi atvinnugrein og skapar mikil verðmæti bæði beint og óbeint, en mörg þjónustufyrirtæki hérlendis treysta á uppgang og viðgang greinarinnar. Skattspor greinarinnar skiptir miklu máli og lagareldi hefur styrkt samfélög gríðarlega bæði efnahagslega og félagslega og með nýjum og eftirsókarverðum atvinnutækifærum og möguleikum.
Í tengslum við ráðstefnuna verður haldin vinnustofa (workshop) 11. október í Hvammi á Grand Hótel Reykjavík, um fóðurgerð og hliðarafurðir laxeldis. Fundurinn er styrktur af AG Fisk og er opinn áhugasömum. Dagskrá fundarins verður aðgengileg á heimasíðu Lagareldis undir AG Fisk Workshop, þar sem hægt verður að skrá sig á fundinn.

Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Minister of Food, Fisheries and Agriculture, will be our guest at the opening session. The future of salmon farming in Iceland and the world market for salmon products in the present and future will be discussed. The tax environment for salmon farming in Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Norway will also be looked in to. The question is whether salmon farming can save the world will asked. Faroese salmon farming will also be introduced.
We will have a seminar dedicated to aquaculture in the Faroe Islands. We will discuss algae cultivation and the opportunities and challenges in production and processing. One of the main challenges in fish farming on a global scale is production of feed and feed ingredients, with a limited supply of proteins. Feed being the largest part of the cost of production as well as the carbon footprint of the industry.
A special seminar on land-based salmon farming and the huge investments planned. A seminar addressing the challenges and possibilities of different methods for fish farming in Iceland: being land farming, sea pond farming, ocean farming the potential they represent for the Icelandic economy and society and about algae cultivation.
In the final seminar, two recent reports; The state and future of aquaculture in Iceland by Boston Consulting Group and the Auditory report of the Icelandic National Audit Office on Aquaculture, will be presented and discussed. This session focuses on the prospects outlined in the Ministry report and seeks to address both these prospects and future development of the aquaculture industry, as well as the challenges and need for up-to-date regulatory framework that both addresses the sustainability and the future growth potential of the industry
Aquaculture is a growing industry and creates substantial value both directly and indirectly, and many companies in the service industry in Iceland are dependent on the industry’s growth and development. The tax footprint of the industry is significant, and the industry has to a large degree strengthened both social and economic development in local communities along the coast.
As a side event to the conference, a workshop will be held in Hvammur at the Grand Hotel Reykjavík, October 11th, on feed production and side products of salmon farming.
